Net Nest's 2024-2025 Premier League Season Begins
2024-2025 Premier League Storylines
We hope you had a wonderful summer and are ready for the start of the 2024-2025 Farmers Premier League Season!
The Net Nest team is excited for another installment of the worldâs most popular league to kick off at Old Trafford this Friday, August 16th when Eric Ten Hagâs Red Devils host Marco Silvaâs Fulham. As always, the Net Nest team will be providing our picks throughout the season of the most exciting and lucrative matches in the Premier League. Prior to the start of this yearâs campaign, here are the main storylines we will be watching for this year.
đ Can Anyone Dethrone City? | Manchester City (+120 to Win)
When all is said and done, Pep Guardiola will go down as the greatest club (and PL) manager of all time. After being told for years that he couldnât replicate his success in the most competitive Premier League, heâs proved everyone wrong by winning 6 of the last 7 titles in commanding fashion. At this level of dominance, itâs hard to make the argument that Sheik Sulimanâs deep pockets are the reason for his success (look at Todd Boehly đ).
That said, City has looked vulnerable since their treble in 2023 with the loss of Ilkay Gundogan. It barely held off United in an FA Cup rematch in Sundayâs Community Shield and almost lost last yearâs title to the Gunners (+175 to Win), who finished as runners-up in heartbreaking fashion for the second straight year. While the loss of Julian Alvarez to AtlĂ©tico will hurt Cityâs depth, it will make way for Savinho, the squadâs 20 year old summer splash who has been compared to Riyad Mahrez with his style of play. City still has the best A and B Teams in the league and we can expect to see continued production from Erling Haaland and Phil Foden (who will look to shake off a disappointing Euros).
We predict City to win 7 of 8 this season. Not because Cityâs as dominant as the treble winning squad of the â22-â23 season. But because there arenât any serious people in England to their title. While Arsenal will continue to put pressure on Cityâs heels this season, this season will end just like every season of HBOâs Succession did (anyone else following this Murdoch case?). Rupert Pep always has the final say.
đż Arne You Excited to See What Happens at Anfield this Season? (+650 to Win)
The one year City wasn't able to claim the title in the past 8 years was due to Pepâs lone nemesis in the Premier League. This season will mark the first time in a decade that a Premier League season will feature a squad without Jurgen Klopp in charge.
Times change. Rivalries change. And weâre excited for the new Liverpool squad to breathe new life into the new chapter of this rivalry. So bring on Pep vs Arne. Gladiator vs. Wicked. Bald vs. Bald.
Despite expected growing pains for Liverpool with a new man in charge, anything short of a Top 4 finish (-190 for Top 4) would be a massive disappointment. The Reds will face stiff competition from similar tiered squads like Tottenham, Man United, Aston Villa, and Chelsea (prediction is in this order). All of these teams will look to also finish Top 4 while taking home silverware via the FA or Carabao Cup.
While United is hot off last yearâs FA Cup and its blockbuster signings of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, we still like Ange Postecogoluâs Spurs to round out the group (+155 for Top 4 Finish). A refreshed Heung-Min Son and healthy James Maddisson playing Ange Ball could lead Tottenham to its first piece of silverware, since 2008, in one of these two cups. And while we expect a slight dip in Unai Emeryâs squad this year as they finish outside of the Top 4 and crash out of the Champions League group stage, we know what happens next when the master finds himself in the Unai Emery UEFA Europa League (UEL) knockouts.
đȘ I will Survive
The recent results of the FA Cup such as Wrexham AFCâs run into the 4th Round and Coventry Cityâs semi final finish show the gap between English teams is shrinking each year. There are never gimmies in the Premier League, and so we must ask ourselves: who is going down this year?
Leicester City was always a team that was too good to have been relegated, winning the Championship and making its way back into the Premier League in just one season. With newly promoted Ipswich having nipped at Leicesterâs heels all last season (97 and 96 points), we expect these two squads to stay up this year with Leicester even cracking the top half of the table.
To face the dreaded relegation, we expect Southampton (+100), Nottingham Forest (+250), Everton (+250), and Brentford (+450) to all be in the danger zone this year. We know the level of frustration and uneasiness that Evertonâs song and dance these past few seasons has brought to the Merseyside (wounds both self-inflicted and unfairly levied upon them). And through the Toffees eventually found themselves well above the relegation zone later last season, we expect this turmoil to continue with poor results to begin the season as theyâre expected to drop valuable points against Brighton, Aston Villa, Tottenham, and Leicester in the first four of their five matches to start this campaign.
